ABUJA — Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed reports claiming he has stepped down from active politics, describing the allegation as false, malicious, and deliberately fabricated.

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said the claim that he held a meeting with stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress to withdraw from politics was entirely untrue.

He clarified that his only recent political engagement was with stakeholders in Adamawa State, stressing that no such national meeting took place.

“Anything beyond that exists solely in the imagination of those peddling falsehood,” the statement said.

Atiku further noted that a decision as significant as quitting active politics would not be communicated through rumours or anonymous sources.

“A matter as grave as withdrawing from politics will never be conveyed through gossip or faceless propaganda,” he said.

He described the reports as part of a coordinated disinformation campaign aimed at creating confusion and weakening the growing momentum within the opposition.

According to the statement, the false narrative is intended to mislead Nigerians and disrupt emerging political alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Atiku maintained that his political influence remains strong, noting that ongoing discussions and alignments across the country continue to revolve around his role in shaping the opposition’s future.

He urged his supporters and members of the ADC to ignore the reports and remain focused on efforts to rebuild the country.

“No amount of disinformation will stop this movement or the determination of Nigerians to seek a better future,” the statement added.
