2027: ADC Hails Amaechi’s Presidential Bid as Eight Aspirants Jostle for Rivers Governorship Ticket

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has welcomed the presidential ambition of former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, even as the party disclosed that no fewer than eight aspirants have indicated interest in its governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.

Chairman-elect of the party in the state, Dr. Chukwudi Dimkpa, described Amaechi’s decision to seek the presidency on the ADC platform as a major boost for the party and evidence of its growing national acceptance.

In a statement issued in Port Harcourt, Dimkpa said the ADC was witnessing increasing political participation and public confidence as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.

According to him, Amaechi’s declaration marks a significant milestone in the party’s expansion and growing relevance in Nigeria’s political landscape.

He noted that the increasing number of governorship aspirants in Rivers State further demonstrates that the ADC is emerging as a credible alternative platform for progressive and people-oriented governance.

“In Rivers State, the level of interest generated within the ADC has been extraordinary. No fewer than eight prominent individuals have already indicated interest in contesting for the office of governor under the platform of the party,” Dimkpa said.

He disclosed that those seeking the governorship ticket include former public office holders, technocrats, business leaders and professionals from various sectors.

According to him, the aspirants include a former Secretary to the Rivers State Government, former members of the House of Representatives, a former Executive Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, a former Chairman of NIMASA, a former Commissioner for Employment Generation and a former Chief Medical Director of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.

Dimkpa added that several other individuals had also shown interest in contesting for Senate, House of Representatives and State Assembly seats on the ADC platform.

He said the influx of aspirants into the party reflects a growing belief among Nigerians that the ADC represents a viable political alternative.

“What we are witnessing is not ordinary political movement. It is a convergence of experience, competence, credibility, youth energy and grassroots belief in a new political direction for Rivers State and Nigeria,” he stated.

“For years, many Nigerians complained that credible people stayed away from politics. Today, credible people are not only joining politics, they are deliberately choosing ADC.”

Dimkpa maintained that the party remains committed to internal democracy, transparent processes and issue-based politics ahead of the elections.

“This momentum is organic. This momentum is real. And this momentum is growing every day. A New Rivers State is possible. A better Nigeria is within reach,” he added.
