The All Progressives Congress (APC) has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, over the alleged claim by Abayomi Hunye that he remains the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election.
In the petition dated August 24, 2026, and signed by the party’s Director of Administration, Ayoola Peter Olajolo, the APC asked the police to investigate Hunye’s alleged public representation of himself as the party’s candidate.
The party said Hunye’s alleged claim, which it said had been circulated through the media and social media platforms, was false and capable of creating confusion among its members and the general public ahead of the election.
The APC expressed concern that continued circulation of the claim could heighten political tension and undermine confidence in the electoral process in Ogun State.
According to the party, Hunye was suspended from the APC on April 7, 2026, following a petition from his ward in Tube, Ipokia Local Government Area of the state.
The suspension, it said, was subsequently ratified by the Ogun State Working Committee and communicated to the relevant organs of the party.
The APC listed alleged anti-party activities, conduct considered detrimental to its image and actions allegedly capable of causing disaffection among members as reasons for the suspension.
The party further told the police that it had conducted its governorship primary, at which Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan emerged as its recognised candidate, while Balogun Kudirat Abiodun was named deputy governorship candidate.
The APC therefore urged the police to investigate the circumstances surrounding Hunye’s alleged representation as its governorship candidate and determine whether his actions amount to any offence under Nigerian law.
The party stressed that its petition was not intended to prejudge the matter or establish Hunye’s guilt, but to allow the appropriate authorities to investigate the allegations and determine whether any offence had been committed.
It requested that Hunye be invited for questioning, while urging the police to conduct a thorough investigation and take appropriate legal action if the allegations are established.
The APC also asked the police to consider lawful preventive measures to avert any development that could trigger confusion, political tension or a breach of public peace in Ogun State.
The party said it was prepared to submit documents and other evidence to aid the investigation, including records relating to Hunye’s suspension, the governorship primary and the recognition of its candidates.
It also pledged the cooperation of its National Headquarters and Ogun State chapter, including making witnesses and additional information available to investigators where necessary.
The petition comes as political parties intensify preparations and alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The APC said its action was aimed at protecting the integrity of its internal processes and ensuring that political activities in Ogun State remain peaceful and orderly.
