…Promises 12,000 Votes for Tinubu, Abiodun, Other Party Candidates
An All Progressives Congress (APC) support group in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area of Ogun State has distributed ₦2 million in cash empowerment to constituents as part of efforts to mobilise support for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group, known as the Ogun Waterside Progressive Caucus, also embarked on a grassroots mobilisation walk on Saturday, October 24, to sensitise residents and canvass votes for APC candidates across the local government.
The exercise, themed “Empowering the Youth, Mobilising the Grassroots: For a Stronger and United Ogun Waterside with APC,” started from Iwopin Ward, proceeded to Imakun-Irokun and ended at the local government secretariat in Abigi.
At the grand finale, 100 beneficiaries reportedly received ₦20,000 each in cash empowerment, bringing the total amount distributed to ₦2 million.
Speaking at the event, the convener, Comrade Olawale Balogun, expressed confidence that youths in the area would deliver 12,000 votes for APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
He listed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, who is being backed for the Ogun East Senatorial District seat, House of Representatives aspirant Joseph Adegbesan and Ogun Waterside State Constituency representative Samsideen Lawal among the candidates the group intends to support.
Balogun said Ogun Waterside was positioned for economic transformation under the APC, citing proposed and ongoing projects, including a $7 billion deep seaport project, oil exploration, a coastal road and an electrification project valued at more than ₦1 billion.
“With the way our local government is positioned under President Tinubu’s administration, we will soon become the most important local government in Nigeria.
“We must express our profound gratitude through our votes. This is not about party; it is about liberation, progress and the development of Ogun Waterside Local Government. We will go all out to ensure that we contribute quality votes to all APC candidates,” he said.
The convener urged residents, particularly youths, to support the party, arguing that the projects cited by the group could create economic opportunities and improve development in the area.
Also speaking, the Special Assistant to the Ogun State Governor, Comrade Olamide Lawal, commended the youths for organising the mobilisation exercise.
He urged them to sustain their efforts until the elections, while appealing to the party leadership to continue engaging and supporting young people beyond the campaign period.
Lawal said youths should remain involved in the political process and be given opportunities to contribute to governance after elections.
The event was attended by the member representing Ogun Waterside State Constituency in the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Samsideen Lawal; the local government vice-chairman; and APC leaders and stakeholders from across the area.
The group said the mobilisation exercise was part of its broader strategy to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
