Davido Banned From Edo? Gov’s Aide Warns Singer: We Don’t Want You Here

The Edo State Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media, Apostle Kassy Chukwu, has warned Afrobeats star Davido against visiting the state, declaring that the singer would not be allowed to perform in Edo for the remainder of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s tenure.

Chukwu made the declaration in a video shared by Peniel TV International, Benin City, amid the escalating disagreement between Davido and the governor.

The controversy began after Okpebholo criticised Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is Davido’s uncle, during the build-up to the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.

Davido subsequently responded by sharing what appeared to be Okpebholo’s West African Examinations Council result on his Instagram Story.

The singer later defended the post during an interview, insisting that he had no reason to apologise to the Edo governor.

Reacting to the development, Chukwu declared that Davido had been banned from performing in Edo State for the remainder of Okpebholo’s administration.

“You have been banned from coming to Edo State to perform. We don’t want to see you in Edo again,” the governor’s aide said.

Chukwu accused Davido of making disrespectful comments about the governor and his family, warning that the singer would not be welcomed in the state during the remaining years of the administration.

He further claimed that some Edo youths were angry over Davido’s comments and could react negatively if the singer returned to the state.

“Edo youths are angry. They said if they catch you again, nobody should bring Davido to come and perform in any place again in Edo State,” he said.

The governor’s aide also criticised Davido’s social media post concerning Okpebholo’s academic record, alleging that the document had been manipulated and cautioning the singer against making similar posts.

The disagreement between the two began during the Osun governorship campaign, after Okpebholo criticised Adeleke’s conduct and questioned his dancing.

Davido hit back at the Edo governor, saying he had no reason to apologise because Okpebholo had travelled to Osun to campaign against his uncle.

The singer also questioned Okpebholo’s decision to leave Edo to participate in the Osun election campaign and raised questions about his electoral mandate.

The latest comments have continued to generate reactions online, with the video of the governor’s aide circulating widely.

However, the controversy has also produced conflicting positions within the Edo State Government, with the state’s Commissioner for Information reportedly saying that Davido had not been banned from entering Edo State.
