The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is set to invest approximately 1.7 billion Naira in establishing a smart school in Abuja, emphasizing its commitment to digitalizing education. The proposed smart school, located in Karshi within the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), aims to lead the way in integrating digital schools in the capital city.
Dr. Danlami Hayyo, the Mandate Secretary of the Education Secretariat, made this announcement during the celebration of academic and sports achievements by FCT students. The smart school in Karshi is expected to feature essential facilities such as internet service equipment, computers, digitalized whiteboards, and other ICT facilities.
Hayyo highlighted the shift from traditional teaching tools, stating that digital teaching and learning require moving away from papers, pencils, and pens. The investment reflects the administration’s dedication to embracing technology in education.
The Mandate Secretary expressed optimism about the smart school serving as a model for subsequent digital schools in Abuja. The planned commissioning later this year marks a significant step towards advancing digital education in the region.
Hayyo also shared insights into the motivation behind this digital leap, mentioning visits to developed countries that have successfully adopted digital teaching methods. In addition to the smart school announcement, the event celebrated the academic and sports accomplishments of FCT students.
As a unique gesture, outstanding students were honored with donations of cows, symbolizing recognition for their achievements. This initiative reflects the Minister’s passion for education and aims to encourage both educators and students.
The event included the presentation of outstanding students and a showcase of the laurels they earned while representing their respective schools in local and international academic and sports competitions in 2023. The FCTA remains committed to fostering an environment that promotes excellence in education and sports.
