Police Smash Crime Ring In Katsina, Arrest 225 Suspects, Rescue 17 Kidnap Victims

The Katsina State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against crime, arresting no fewer than 225 suspects linked to various criminal activities across the state.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the Command’s operational achievements in Katsina on Thursday.

According to him, those arrested include seven suspected kidnappers, 10 suspected armed robbers, one suspected armed bandit, two suspected informants and 21 suspected drug peddlers.

He further revealed that 10 suspects were arrested for murder and culpable homicide, 36 for rape and sodomy, 13 for social miscreant activities, while 130 others were apprehended for various criminal offences.

“In total, 150 major cases were reported and investigated, with 109 cases already charged to court after the conclusion of investigations,” he said.

Aliyu disclosed that the Command also rescued 17 kidnapped victims during the period under review. He added that the victims had been debriefed, medically examined and reunited with their families.

The police spokesman said several items were recovered from criminal suspects, including 20 laptops, two GSM phones, one master key and one scanner.

He added that operatives also recovered 466 suspected rustled animals, three motor vehicles, 22 motorcycles and four bags of vandalised span wires.

Other exhibits recovered include 141 tablets of Exhole, 190 sachets of Diazepam, 170 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 49 D5 tablets, 133 Pregabalin tablets and five packs of Dexamethasone containing about six million pieces.

To further tighten the noose on criminal elements, the Command launched the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), while sustaining intelligence-driven operations and community policing initiatives across the state.

According to Aliyu, the achievements were made possible through effective collaboration with other security agencies, joint patrols and real-time intelligence sharing, which have significantly boosted operational efficiency and response time.

He commended the Katsina State Government under Governor Dikko Umaru Radda for its unwavering support and also appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for providing logistical and moral support to the Command.

The police spokesman equally thanked residents of the state for their cooperation and trust in security agencies.

“We urge members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information to the Police through the Command’s dedicated hotline. Criminals should desist from unlawful activities or be prepared to face the full weight of the law,” he warned.
