AKURE – Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms, insisting they are designed to rebuild and reposition Nigeria’s economy, not to inflict hardship on Nigerians.
Speaking on Friday while hosting leaders of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors (RHA) at the Cocoa Conference Hall, Governor’s Office, Alagbaka, Akure, Aiyedatiwa said many Nigerians were criticising the President because they lacked adequate understanding of the objectives and long-term benefits of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to him, the initial pains associated with the reforms are already giving way to positive economic outcomes.
“The economic reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are beginning to reposition Nigeria’s economy. The initial hardship occasioned by the policies is gradually giving way to positive results,” he said.
The governor urged members of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors to intensify grassroots mobilisation and public enlightenment ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that Nigerians must be properly informed about the Federal Government’s policies and achievements.
“Many citizens criticise the President because they lack adequate information on the objectives and benefits of the Renewed Hope Agenda. We have to educate them and take the message to every part of the country,” Aiyedatiwa stated.
He explained that the Renewed Hope Ambassadors was created to bridge the communication gap between the Federal Government and Nigerians, saying the group should continue to project government achievements while also relaying feedback from citizens.
Aiyedatiwa highlighted several achievements of the Tinubu administration, including the student loan scheme, exchange rate convergence and the removal of multiple foreign exchange windows, which he said had strengthened the economy by eliminating distortions and curbing round-tripping.
He also pointed to ongoing Federal Government road projects such as the Ibadan-Akure Highway reconstruction and the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, describing them as strategic investments that would improve connectivity, stimulate economic growth and make transportation safer.
The governor charged members of the organisation to work tirelessly to secure massive support for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, assuring them of the Ondo State Government’s continued backing.
He also expressed confidence that collaboration between the Renewed Hope Ambassadors and the All Progressives Congress (APC) would further strengthen the party’s grassroots structure.
Earlier, the State Director-General and Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Rt. Hon. Victor Olabimtan, disclosed that the organisation had recruited 25 ambassadors in every political ward across Ondo State to deepen grassroots mobilisation.
Olabimtan said the group, inaugurated in the state on May 5, was established to take government policies directly to the people, counter misinformation, showcase government achievements and provide feedback from communities.
He revealed that plans were underway to recruit an additional 400 ambassadors in each ward and organise youth summits and town hall meetings to sensitise Nigerians on the programmes and policies of the Tinubu administration, particularly those targeted at youth development and empowerment.
Olabimtan reaffirmed that the Renewed Hope Ambassadors remains an organ of the APC and would continue to work with the party under its slogan: “One Party, One Message, One Mobilisation, United We Stand, Divided We Fall.”
