NCC Ranks Top Three in 2026 Federal MDA Performance

Abuja, Nigeria — The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has emerged as one of the top three best-performing federal agencies in the 2026 Public Service Reforms Performance Assessment conducted by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR).

The Commission placed third overall in the nationwide ranking, behind the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) and the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), following a comprehensive evaluation of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

According to a statement issued by the NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Nnenna Ukoha, the assessment covered key reform indicators, including the Self-Assessment Tool (SAT), Freedom of Information (FOI) compliance, Fiscal Transparency and Integrity Index, and official website performance metrics.

Representing the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, at the award ceremony in Abuja, Executive Commissioner, Technical Services, Engr. Abraham Oshadami, described the recognition as a validation of the Commission’s reform efforts.

“For us at NCC, this recognition acknowledges our ongoing reform efforts and underscores the need to sustain them,” he said.

He added that the award reflects the Commission’s commitment to improving transparency, accountability and service delivery within Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.

“For our telecommunications consumers, this recognition reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen service quality, transparency, and responsiveness across the sector,” Oshadami noted.

He further emphasised the Commission’s resolve to deploy regulatory tools and innovative strategies to enhance consumer protection and overall service quality.

In recent years, the NCC has introduced several reforms aimed at boosting accountability and performance in the telecoms industry. These include the launch of the National Coverage Map, which provides near real-time data on network availability and performance, as well as the publication of quarterly network performance reports.

The Commission has also directed Mobile Network Operators to simplify tariff structures for better consumer understanding and comply with updated corporate governance guidelines to strengthen operational accountability.

Director-General of BPSR, Mr. Dasuki Arabi, commended participating MDAs for advancing transparency, accountability and open governance, noting that the annual assessment aligns with global public service standards.

The ranking, which commemorates the United Nations Public Service Day, recognises institutions that demonstrate excellence in reform implementation and service delivery across Nigeria’s public sector.
