PORT HARCOURT – Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested a notorious armed robbery suspect, Austine Emenike, popularly known as “Oyibo,” during an intelligence-led operation in Aluu community, recovering several firearms and live ammunition from his hideout.

The operation was carried out on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, as part of the Command’s sustained crackdown on violent crime across the state.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Blessing Agabe, said the operatives recovered one locally made pistol, four single-barrel guns and five live cartridges during the operation.

According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that Emenike is allegedly linked to a notorious armed robbery syndicate operating within Rivers State.

The Command disclosed that detectives have launched a manhunt for other members of the gang while investigations continue to unravel the full extent of the syndicate’s criminal activities.

Commending the operatives for the successful operation, CP Olugbenga Adepoju praised their courage, professionalism and commitment to duty, describing the arrest as another major breakthrough in the Command’s fight against violent crime.

“This arrest and the recovery of these dangerous weapons underscore our resolve to proactively tackle violent crime and protect the law-abiding people of Rivers State. We will continue to intensify intelligence-driven operations until criminal elements are completely rooted out,” the Commissioner said.

CP Adepoju also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements and activities to the police, stressing that public cooperation and credible intelligence remain vital to sustaining peace and security across the state.

The Rivers State Police Command reaffirmed its determination to deny criminals safe haven and sustain intelligence-driven operations aimed at safeguarding lives and property.
