Nigeria’s Envoy to Portugal Arrives Lisbon, Assumes Duty

LISBON, Portugal — Nigeria’s Ambassador-Designate to Portugal, Erelu Angela Adebayo, has arrived in Lisbon to assume diplomatic duties, pledging to strengthen bilateral relations between both countries.

She was received on arrival by a representative of the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Luis dos Santos, alongside officials of the Embassy of Nigeria in Portugal led by Mr. Haruna Musa, and members of the Nigerian community.

Speaking after her arrival, the envoy expressed appreciation for the warm reception and reaffirmed her commitment to deepening diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and Portugal.

“I appreciate the warm reception accorded to me and my delegation, and I remain committed to strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and Portugal during my tour of duty,” she said.

The ambassador’s arrival marks a renewed phase in Nigeria-Portugal relations, with expectations of enhanced cooperation in trade, investment and cultural exchange.

Diplomatic observers note that the engagement comes at a time when Nigeria is seeking to expand its partnerships across Europe and attract greater foreign investment.

Officials said the envoy is expected to engage Portuguese authorities and stakeholders to advance mutual interests and reinforce existing cooperation frameworks.

Adebayo was accompanied by her spouse, Adebayo Richard Adeniyi, as she formally begins her diplomatic assignment in Portugal.
