A 20-year-old man, Pascal Ogbogu, has been arrested by the police in Anambra State for allegedly macheting his 56-year-old father to death in Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday evening, August 25, 2026, when Ogbogu allegedly attacked his father before fleeing the scene.
Following a distress call, operatives of the Eziowelle Police Division, alongside family members and members of the Abatete Vigilante, rushed to the scene.
They reportedly found the deceased lying in a pool of blood with a deep machete wound to his throat.
The victim was evacuated to a mortuary, where his remains were deposited pending autopsy.
The suspect, who allegedly fled immediately after the incident, was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday, August 26, following a coordinated search by the police and members of the Abatete Vigilante.
His arrest was said to have been facilitated by information provided by community members who assisted security operatives in tracking his whereabouts.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, commended the family, residents, police officers and vigilante personnel for their prompt response and cooperation.
Ama said effective community participation and timely information sharing remained crucial to successful policing and the protection of lives and property.
The police boss commiserated with the deceased’s family and directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
He said the circumstances surrounding the incident would be thoroughly examined and assured the family and members of the public that the investigation would be conducted professionally and in accordance with the law.
The commissioner further assured that the suspect would face due process upon completion of the investigation.
