16-Year-Old ‘Robber’ Nabbed with Fake Gun in Anambra

 

Police hunt two fleeing accomplices

 

Onitsha — Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a 16-year-old boy, Udochukwu Nwankwo, over an alleged armed robbery operation in Amansea, Awka North Local Government Area of the state.

The teenager was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday, September 2, 2026, by operatives attached to B Division, Amansea, during a routine security patrol.

Police said a shiny metallic lighter designed to resemble a pistol was recovered from the suspect. The object was allegedly used to threaten and dispossess a victim of her valuables.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly operated with two accomplices, who are currently at large.

The trio was said to have attacked a guest at a hotel in the Amansea area and allegedly made away with her mobile phone and other personal belongings.

The police said the teenager allegedly confessed during interrogation to using the recovered pistol-like object to intimidate victims during robbery operations.

Following his arrest, the Command said it had intensified efforts to track down the two fleeing suspects.

Police are also working to recover the stolen mobile phone and other valuables allegedly taken from the victim.

The Anambra State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, said all persons found culpable would be brought to justice, adding that the manhunt for the fleeing suspects was ongoing.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly provide security agencies with useful information that could assist in tracking criminal elements and preventing criminal activities.
