Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, has declared that the infrastructure projects being delivered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration will help the All Progressives Congress (APC) secure victory in the FCT in the 2027 elections.
Wike made the declaration on Thursday while inspecting the ongoing Apo-Karshi and Bwari-Kubwa road projects, saying the impact of the projects on residents would speak louder than campaign promises.
The minister said the delivery of critical infrastructure, particularly in satellite towns, had demonstrated what he described as the commitment of the Tinubu administration to addressing the needs of residents across the FCT.
“If good governance is a barometer to measure whether a government has succeeded or not, then we have nothing to fear,” Wike said.
According to him, the Tinubu administration had moved beyond promises by listening to residents, identifying their challenges and implementing projects to address them.
“Now, the Tinubu administration has come and it’s not only listening to you, it’s not only caring for you, it’s solving your problems. Why will they want to change their mind?” he asked.
Wike said the ongoing projects would form part of the issues that would dominate the 2027 campaigns, arguing that residents could assess the administration based on projects they could see and verify.
“This is the campaign. The people who will come, what will they come with? They will tell them stories. But we have not come with stories, we have come with facts, verifiable facts,” he said.
The FCT minister also expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s chances of securing another term, saying the administration’s performance had given him no cause for concern.
“I can beat my chest, I can close my eyes and go home and sleep with my two eyes closed, that Tinubu will emerge. I have no fear at all,” he said.
Wike said the Tinubu administration had also changed the approach to infrastructure development in the FCT by extending major projects to satellite towns instead of concentrating development within the city centre.
“The Renewed Hope administration has redefined infrastructure delivery as far as FCT is concerned, not just within the city, but also within the satellite towns,” he said.
On the projects inspected, Wike said the long-delayed Apo-Karshi road was progressing and was expected to be completed in November.
He also announced that the dualisation of the Bwari-Kubwa road was scheduled for completion in December.
According to him, work on the Bwari-Kubwa project would intensify from the first week of October as the seasonal heavy rains subside.
The minister said the projects were part of the administration’s broader effort to extend infrastructure and development to communities across the FCT.
Residents of Bwari also turned out during the inspection visit as Wike reiterated the FCT Administration’s commitment to completing ongoing road projects in the territory.
