Maazi Nnamdi Kanu, the self-declared leader of the outlawed Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB, has spoken out about why he jumped bail and fled Nigeria.
Kanu is facing an 11-count indictment that includes terrorism, treasonable felony, operating an unlawful society, publication of libelous material, illegal firearms ownership, and improper importation of goods.
Kanu broke his release conditions and vanished while the trial was still going on.
Kanu asked permission from the trial judge, Justice Binta Nyako, to address the court after being surreptitiously carried to the Federal High Court by DSS operatives for the continuation of his trial judge, Justice Binta Nyako to address the court and present his side of the story.
Kanu was granted permission and informed the court that his home had been unlawfully raided by security officers and that his life was in grave danger.
He also said that if it hadn’t been for his foresight in jumping out of the nation on the day of the invasion, he and others would have been slaughtered.
Kanu was responding to a claim made by the prosecution’s lawyer, Shuaibu Labaran, that Kanu evaded the court’s bail and departed the country.
