Nollywood faith-based movie, Agbara Nla: The Return, has set a new box-office milestone after raking in more than N71 million from single-day preview screenings ahead of its nationwide cinema release.
The movie, according to the Nigerian Box Office (@NGAboxoffice), generated about N70 million from 12,134 admissions during preview screenings held between September 25 and October 1, 2026.
The performance was reported as the biggest single-day preview gross recorded in West Africa, placing Agbara Nla: The Return at the top of the box-office rankings for the period.
The Nigerian Box Office report also indicated that the film’s 12,134 admissions represented the highest first-day admissions figure recorded in 2026, while its N70 million gross was the biggest first-day gross recorded by a Nollywood title during the period.
The film also reportedly achieved the biggest single-day gross for October.
Distributor of the movie, The Nile Entertainment, had earlier celebrated the feat, describing the production as the biggest first-day grossing Nollywood title and the biggest opening for a faith-based movie.
The distributor said the film had achieved “the biggest first-day gross for a Nollywood title” as well as the biggest faith-based opening, adding that its preview earnings had crossed the N71 million mark.
Agbara Nla: The Return is now showing in cinemas across Nigeria, coming 33 years after the original Agbara Nla was released in 1993.
The new movie is a modern reimagining of the classic Christian film created by filmmaker Mike Bamiloye, which was later released in English as The Ultimate Power in 1994.
The story returns to Muwonleru, a community controlled by the powerful herbalist, Isawuru.
In the new production, two Christians, Olaboye and Olatomi, leave their comfortable city lives to spread the Christian message in the community, setting the stage for a confrontation between their faith and Isawuru’s spiritual influence.
Mike Bamiloye reprises his role as Isawuru, while Damilola Mike-Bamiloye and Joshua Bamiloye directed the new production.
Other members of the cast include Aanu Kolade Abiodun, Remilekun Mosiko, Philip Olubakin, Gloria Mike-Bamiloye and David Kola Okeowo.
The strong preview performance has further heightened interest in the film as it begins its full cinema run nationwide.
