Alake Storms White House, Courts Fresh US Investments in Nigeria’s Mining Sector

ABUJA – Nigeria has intensified efforts to attract foreign investment into its solid minerals sector, as the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, led the Nigeria Solid Minerals Company (NSMC) delegation to the White House for high-level talks with top United States officials.

The meeting, held in Washington, D.C., focused on deepening the Nigeria–United States strategic partnership and unlocking fresh investments in the country’s mining industry.

Alake and his delegation met with David Copley, Special Assistant to the U.S. President and Senior Director for Global Supply Chain at the National Security Council, as well as Diana London of DCI Group.

The discussions centred on expanding cooperation across the critical minerals value chain, including geological exploration, mining, mineral processing, value addition and refining.

Both countries also explored ways to strengthen secure and resilient supply chains for critical minerals required for the global energy transition, with Nigeria seeking to position itself as a major player in the international minerals market.

The minister said the engagement aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises economic diversification, industrialisation, job creation and the attraction of strategic foreign investment into key sectors of the economy.

According to the ministry, the meeting also reinforces the growing economic partnership between Nigeria and the United States through investment-driven collaboration aimed at promoting sustainable mining, local value addition and shared prosperity.

The visit is expected to pave the way for increased American investment, technology transfer and stronger collaboration in developing Nigeria’s vast solid mineral resources.
