The African Democratic Congress has challenged the ruling All Progressives Congress to publish a verifiable membership register submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, dismissing the party’s membership figures as “lies” aimed at preparing grounds for rigging the 2027 elections.
The opposition party threw the challenge on Monday in Abuja during the collation of results for its presidential primary election.
ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the party currently has 3,444,000 verified members captured in records already submitted to INEC.
He insisted that unlike the APC, the ADC would not “set up figures to deceive Nigerians.”
“What the APC is doing is amusing and laughable,” Abdullahi declared.
“They should produce a verifiable membership registration submitted to INEC if indeed they claim they have 20 million members. They don’t have it. It is all lies.”
The ADC spokesman also took a swipe at the APC’s claim that 10.9 million members voted during the presidential primary that produced President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as candidate.
According to him, the ruling party was merely trying to create the impression that millions of votes were already guaranteed ahead of the 2027 elections.
Abdullahi boasted that ADC remains the only political party currently conducting a truly competitive and democratic presidential primary process in Nigeria.
He said none of the party’s three presidential aspirants — Atiku Abubakar, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen and Rotimi Amaechi — could confidently predict victory because the process was transparent and credible.
On the lingering factional crisis in the party, Abdullahi maintained that the Supreme Court had already recognised the leadership of former Senate President David Mark and former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola.
ADC National Organising Secretary, Chinedu Idigo, also said the party had designed a transparent process to ensure only the best candidate emerges.
He revealed that INEC officials monitored all the party’s primaries nationwide, including the ongoing presidential contest.
Chairman of the Presidential Primaries Election Committee, Ikechi Emenike, described ADC as the only political party in Nigeria currently upholding genuine democratic values.
He said unlike other parties accused of imposing candidates and manipulating consensus arrangements, ADC had created a level playing field for all aspirants to test their popularity before party members nationwide.
