Former Vice-President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, on Wednesday arrived in Sokoto for the formal inauguration of his presidential campaign.
Atiku landed at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport alongside other prominent opposition figures, including former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun; Hajiya Naja’atu Muhammad; and former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye.
The political leaders were in the state ahead of the campaign flag-off, which is expected to attract ADC members, supporters and other political stakeholders.
Atiku’s arrival drew a large crowd of supporters and residents who gathered at the airport and along the route to welcome him.
The enthusiastic reception caused congestion around the airport and adjoining roads, with the crowd expected to affect movement to the campaign venue.
Earlier, some youths reportedly identified as APC supporters attempted to block roads leading to the venue.
However, the youths were reportedly overwhelmed by the large crowd, allowing movement towards the venue to continue.
