The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has mourned the victims of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft crash near Igbokoda in Ondo State, urging authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the tragedy.
CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, in a statement on Tuesday, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased personnel, the Nigerian Air Force, the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the government and people of Ondo State.
Okoh said the Christian community was deeply saddened by the incident and prayed for God’s comfort for everyone affected by the crash.
He acknowledged the sacrifices made by officers and men of the Armed Forces in the service of the nation, stressing that their families also bear the burden of such sacrifices.
“At this difficult moment, our thoughts and prayers are particularly with the bereaved families and their colleagues in the Nigerian Air Force,” he said.
CAN welcomed the decision to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, but urged authorities to ensure that the process was professional, thorough and transparent.
The association also called for the findings of the investigation and resulting safety recommendations to be given serious attention.
According to CAN, the incident highlights the need to strengthen aviation safety, aircraft maintenance, operational procedures and emergency response systems, particularly for personnel deployed on difficult assignments in the service of the country.
“Every life lost is precious,” the association said, urging Nigerians to remember the bereaved families and the Nigerian Air Force in their prayers.
CAN prayed for the eternal repose of the deceased, comfort for the bereaved and wisdom for those entrusted with the responsibility of protecting lives.
