The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has assured members and Nigerians that its National Convention and preparations for the 2027 general elections will be transparent, peaceful and in full compliance with the Electoral Act and guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The assurance was given at the party’s National Convention and Presidential Primary in Bauchi State.
Addressing delegates and party faithful, the convention leadership said the SDP was determined to build a people-oriented government focused on prosperity, peace and national development.
“We shall work relentlessly to achieve the mandate of an SDP government centred around people, prosperity, peace and partnership,” the committee said.
The party disclosed that it had formally notified INEC of the convention in line with the law guiding political party activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
“In line with the Electoral Act and provisions of the INEC guidelines on the 2027 general elections, the party wrote to INEC and complied with the requirement of giving the commission a 21-day notice,” the committee stated.
According to the leadership, a detailed timetable and operational guidelines were also prepared in line with the SDP constitution and circulated nationwide to party members and stakeholders.
The committee explained that the process included the sale of nomination forms and screening of aspirants contesting various positions on the party’s platform.
It added that elections into party offices during the convention would be conducted through voice vote as provided in the party constitution.
“Today, the conduct of the election of party officials shall be by voice vote and in accordance with the constitution of the party,” the committee announced.
The SDP leadership expressed confidence that the convention would strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
“May our convention be successful and peaceful. God bless the Social Democratic Party and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the committee added.
