Ministry of Defence, Defence Industries Corporation Of Nigeria Signs MoU With National Association For Science and Engineering infrastructure (NASENI) for production for arms and ammunition and areas of research and development in Defence and military infrastructure to achieve self reliance in the defence sector.
The Minister of State For Defence, H.E Bello Matawalle, described the MoU signing as a legacy that would be remembered as the beginning of Defence progress in Nigeria, while reiteratring his assurance to Me President that DICON would export Military hardware before the end of his tenure. He therefore called for cooperation to see to it that DICON delivers on its mandate . He said with DICON delivering at capacity it would reduce the country spend on importing of military hardware thereby saving the country of scarce resource
He concluded his address by thanking NASENI for making the initiative possible and ministry of steel development for their interest in making it a reality.
In his address Minister of steel development, Prince shuaibu Audu Abubakar described the MoU as a new avenue to put our Security Architecture and Infrastructure in our own hands.
He stated that the Ajaokuta Steel plant is a perfect location for the military industrial complex stating that there are already facilities in place to cater for the needs for defence equipment production.
NASENI DG Mr Khalil Suleiman Alilu deseibed the signing of the Mou as a significant milestone as it marks the beginning of efforts to strengthen Nigeria Defence abilities , saying the partnership is testimony to the commitment harnessing Nigeria’s scientific and Engineering Expertise .
He said the Mou is crucial and would lay the foundation for self reliance in our defence industry, he concluded by reiterating NASENI commitment to making Nigeria Military Industrial complex a reality.
