The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar CON, mni, has assured the Nigeria Veterans of the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to providing improved welfare for them and their families.
This assurance came during a meeting between the Minister and the Executives of the Veteran Association of Nigeria on Wednesday, 8th November 2023, at Ship House in Abuja.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Director of Press of the ministry, Henshaw Ogubike mnipr.
Minister Abubakar emphasized that the Federal Government is working on a comprehensive framework aimed at enhancing the well-being of veterans and their families. Additionally, he mentioned plans to disburse the Security Debarment Allowance (SDA) in two installments and provide palliatives to mitigate the effects of fuel subsidy removal.
“Also, the National Health Insurance scheme is undergoing a review to cover the veterans among others he said”.
To facilitate this process, the Minister directed the formation of a 5-man Committee representing fifteen different Associations. This committee will further enhance engagements with the Ministry, strengthening the way forward.
The Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Mohammed Bello Matawalle MON, expressed the Ministry’s steadfast commitment to supporting veterans who have tirelessly defended Nigeria’s unity and territorial integrity.
Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana mni, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, noted that the approved SDA has been given to the Military Pensions board for onward delivery to the veterans
