The Delta State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on the sale and distribution of illicit drugs, arresting six suspects and recovering quantities of Tramadol, Rohypnol and other suspected illicit substances.
The operation, carried out by operatives of the Department of Operations, followed a marching order issued by the newly deployed Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel E. Erale, to dismantle drug networks across the state.
The suspects were arrested during a routine patrol along Alegwe Street, off Owa Road, Agbor, where police operatives acted on credible intelligence and raided a store suspected to be used for the sale of illicit drugs.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, who confirmed the arrests, identified the suspects as Anabel Haruna, 18; Terhemen Faith, 19; Kaityo Abigail, 23; Iorkee Eunice, 26; Osomuri Emmanuel, 31; and a 15-year-old female juvenile whose identity was withheld.
Edafe said a further search of a vehicle linked to the suspects led to the recovery of quantities of Tramadol, Rohypnol and other substances suspected to be illicit drugs.
According to him, the suspects and recovered exhibits are currently in police custody, while investigation into the case is ongoing.
Meanwhile, CP Erale has warned drug dealers and distributors operating in Delta State to desist from the illegal trade, stressing that the command would not allow the state to become a haven for illicit drug activities.
The Commissioner said the proliferation of hard drugs fuels violent crimes and other forms of criminality, directing police operatives to intensify intelligence gathering and enforcement against drug dealers and their networks.
He vowed that the command would continue to identify and dismantle drug distribution networks operating across the state as part of efforts to improve security and protect residents.
