The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suffered a setback in Ebonyi State as its governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections, High Chief Chukwuma Odii, has formally resigned from the party.
Odii announced his decision in a resignation letter dated Thursday, January 1, 2026, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Amanator Ward, Isuachara, in Onicha Local Government Area of the state.
The former PDP flagbearer said his resignation followed wide consultations with members of his family and close associates, stressing that the decision was carefully considered.
In the letter, Odii expressed gratitude to the leadership and members of the party for the opportunity given to him to contest the 2023 governorship election under the PDP platform.
“I write to officially inform you that, following wide consultations with my family and close associates, I have taken a considered decision to resign my membership of the PDP with immediate effect,” he stated.
He added: “I sincerely appreciate the leadership and members of the party for the opportunity and platform provided to me, which I utilised to contest as a governorship candidate during the 2023 general election.”
Odii also thanked party members for their support and cooperation during his time in the PDP, noting that he remained grateful for the goodwill extended to him.
“Please accept this letter as my formal notice of resignation. I thank you once again for the cooperation and understanding during my time in the party,” he concluded.
Odii’s resignation adds to the list of high-profile exits from the PDP in recent times, further reshaping the political landscape in Ebonyi State.
