FCT Hits 95% Budget Performance as Wike Hails Transformation of International Conference Centre

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, has revealed that the FCT Administration has achieved an unprecedented 95 percent implementation of its 2024 statutory budget, marking a milestone in project delivery and financial discipline.

Wike disclosed this on Monday during an inspection tour of ongoing projects, including the renovation of the International Conference Centre (ICC) and key road infrastructure in the territory.

“In terms of implementation of the 2024 budget, I can tell you we have done not less than 90 to 95 percent. That is history. That has never happened before,” Wike stated.

He clarified that the 2024 budget remains active until the end of June 2025, allowing for continued funding of capital projects without disruption.

“The budget has been conveyed to the National Assembly. They are on recess and will resume on April 29. We believe that when they come back, we will go and defend the 2025 Appropriation Bill,” he explained.

“That is not hindering the projects. These projects are part of the 2024 budget, which was extended to June. So we are doing what is within the law. The remaining part of the 2025 will now be used to pay the contractors here—that is, the Statutory Budget for the FCT.”

Wike also expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work being delivered by contractors, praising their commitment and the administration’s efforts to ensure prompt payments.

“Frankly speaking, we are very impressed with what was scheduled. The contractors handling these various jobs have lived up to expectations, and we are also doing our part by making sure payments are made so there are no delays from either side,” he said.

Speaking specifically on the International Conference Centre, the minister said, “Those of you who knew how it was and see what it is today will be impressed. The Conference Centre is coming back to what it’s supposed to be.”

Wike’s inspection underscores the FCTA’s resolve to transform the capital city’s infrastructure and ensure timely execution of high-impact projects ahead of the 2025 budget cycle.
