FCT Shuts Myra Event Centre Over Noise Pollution

***AMMC Issues Stern Warning, Enforces Zero-Tolerance Policy on Environmental Violations

The Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC) has ordered the immediate closure of Myra Event Centre located at Plot 135, Mustapha Bello Street, Guzape, over persistent noise pollution and environmental violations.

The directive was issued by AMMC Coordinator, Mr. Felix Obuah, who said the enforcement forms part of a broader strategy by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to tackle environmental infractions that threaten public health and community tranquility.

“Our findings revealed that the event centre consistently disrupted surrounding neighborhoods with excessive noise, especially at night,” Obuah said in a statement on Thursday. “This is a clear violation of FCT environmental laws, and the facility will remain closed until further notice.”

Obuah reiterated the FCTA’s zero-tolerance stance on environmental abuse and warned that any other facility found violating noise regulations or disturbing public peace will face similar consequences.

“The well-being of Abuja residents is paramount. We will not allow any individual or business to endanger that under the guise of hosting events,” he added.

He also called on event organizers and business operators within the capital to adhere strictly to environmental protection laws and obtain the necessary approvals for their operations.

In a rallying call to the public, Obuah encouraged residents to report environmental breaches through official AMMC communication channels, stressing that community cooperation is crucial in keeping Abuja clean, peaceful, and livable.

The closure of Myra Event Centre is the latest in a series of enforcement actions by the FCTA, reflecting its renewed commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable urban management in Nigeria’s capital city.
