The Federal Government has disbursed ₦38.93 billion to 166 public tertiary institutions nationwide under the Needs Assessment Revitalisation Fund to address infrastructure deficits and improve teaching and learning facilities.
The beneficiaries comprise 79 universities, 46 polytechnics and 41 colleges of education, with the funds earmarked for approved projects to strengthen institutional capacity and improve the quality of tertiary education.
Efe Ovuakporie, Head of Media at the Federal Ministry of Finance, disclosed this in a statement issued over the weekend.
According to the statement, universities received the largest share of the intervention, with ₦28.5 billion allocated to 79 institutions.
The 46 polytechnics are to receive ₦5.8 billion, while 41 colleges of education have been allocated ₦4.7 billion.
The intervention is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to address the funding and infrastructure needs of public tertiary institutions and support the implementation of agreed measures under the Memorandum of Understanding between the government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The funds are expected to enable beneficiary institutions to commence or accelerate approved projects targeting critical infrastructure gaps and other identified institutional needs.
The government’s intervention also underscores the importance of collaboration among the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Federal Ministry of Education and beneficiary institutions to ensure that public funds translate into measurable improvements in educational infrastructure and institutional capacity.
The ministry stressed the need for effective coordination in implementing the approved projects to achieve the intended objectives of the revitalisation programme.
