Gunmen Kidnap Ex-Minister Adelabu’s Sister and Twin Sons in Ibadan

Ibadan, Oyo State – Armed gunmen have kidnapped Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, along with her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul.

The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, while Mrs. John-Paul, aged 43, was on her way to drop her children at school in the Elewura area of Challenge, Ibadan.

According to a statement issued by the family and signed by Comrade Femi Awogboro, one of Chief Adelabu’s media aides, the victims were forcefully taken by the assailants while heading out from Elewura to link the expressway.

Mrs. John-Paul is the youngest of five children of the late Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu. She had voluntarily retired from service at the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian before relocating to Ibadan with her children.

The Adelabu family described the abduction as distressing but expressed confidence in the security agencies. The statement noted that all relevant security operatives have been notified and have commenced investigations.

The family appealed to the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and cooperate with security agencies by providing any useful details that could aid the swift and safe rescue of the victims.

This latest incident comes amid heightened concerns over insecurity in Oyo State, following the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in the Ogbomoso axis in May.

As at press time, no contact had been established with the kidnappers, and efforts are ongoing to secure the release of Mrs. John-Paul and her sons.

**Ibadan, Oyo State** – Unknown gunmen have abducted the younger sister of former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 gubernatorial aspirant in Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Adelabu (also known as Bayo Adelabu), along with her twin sons.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, in the Challenge area of Ibadan South West Local Government Area, specifically at Elewura.

Confirming the abduction, Comrade Femi Awogboro, one of Adelabu’s media aides, said in a statement that the victims — Adelabu’s younger sister, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul — were kidnapped while heading out from Elewura to link the expressway.

“The family members were going out this morning from Elewura to link the express when they were attacked and whisked away by the unknown kidnappers,” Awogboro stated.

Mrs. John-Paul, aged 43, was reportedly on her way to drop the children at school around 7:30 a.m. when the gunmen struck.

This latest incident comes barely weeks after suspected terrorists carried out a coordinated attack at Ahoro-Esiele in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, abducting over 45 pupils and their teachers.

The Adelabu family has notified security agencies and appealed for calm as investigations continue. No ransom demand has been reported as of the time of filing this report.
