Gunmen suspected to be robbers on Thursday killed an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) guarding the University of Benin Bursar’s private residence at Ogheghe Community, Ikpoba-Okha local government area of Edo state.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 2.45am in the early hours of Thursday at the presidential area of the community.

He said; “Upon landing in the Bursar’s compound, the gunmen met the NSCDC officer identified as Alex Osaghae sleeping- and the hoodlums immediately opened fire on him and thereafter made away with the officer’s riffle.

Neither Mr. Victor Imagbe the Uniben Bursar nor Dr. Benedicta Ehanire- the institution’s spokesperson had responded to inquiries as at the time of filing this report.

However, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Edo State Command, NSCDC, Mr. Ogbebor Efosa confirmed the incident.

He declined further comments on the incident.
