Kara-Berger Bridge: TRACE Announces Two-Week Traffic Diversion

Repair works begin Tuesday as motorists face lane restrictions, delays

Motorists plying the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway are set to experience lane restrictions and possible traffic delays as repair works begin on the Kara–Berger Bridge from Tuesday, September 8.

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) said the rehabilitation, which involves the replacement of deteriorating expansion joints on the bridge, will run for two weeks, ending Tuesday, September 22, 2026.

TRACE disclosed this in a traffic advisory issued on Saturday, saying the repair was being undertaken in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Works and other relevant stakeholders following a directive from the Minister of Works.

The agency said the exercise was aimed at restoring the structural integrity of the bridge, improving road safety and ensuring smoother movement of vehicles along the busy Lagos-Ibadan corridor.

It warned that motorists should expect intermittent traffic delays throughout the construction period, particularly during peak hours, as lane restrictions would be introduced to create a safe working environment for contractors.

TRACE said personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Nigeria Police Force and other traffic and security agencies would be deployed to manage traffic and protect road users.

The agency urged motorists to plan their journeys ahead and allow extra time for their trips during the rehabilitation period.

It also advised road users to obey temporary traffic signs, road markings and instructions from traffic management officials, while reducing speed when approaching the construction zone.

Motorists were further warned against unnecessary stopping, picking up passengers within restricted areas, driving against traffic or using unauthorised diversion routes.

TRACE stressed that strict compliance with traffic regulations would help reduce congestion and ensure the timely completion of the repairs.

The agency appealed to motorists and other road users to remain patient and cooperative, noting that the temporary inconvenience was necessary to improve the safety and durability of the bridge.

TRACE assured the public that it would work closely with the Federal Ministry of Works, contractors and other agencies to minimise disruptions and maintain traffic flow during the project.

It also promised to provide regular updates on traffic conditions and the progress of the rehabilitation works.
