The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, has issued a directive for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to relocate its corporate headquarters to its original base in Lagos immediately. Confirming the directive, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Oprah, stated that the relocation is in the best interest of FAAN and the aviation sector.
The statement highlighted that the decision to move the headquarters to Abuja was ill-advised, considering there was no adequate office space for FAAN in Abuja. The relocation back to Lagos is seen as a cost-saving measure, preventing the unnecessary expenditure of public funds on Duty Tour Allowance (DTA) for staff working out of station.
FAAN assured the public that operations in Abuja remain unaffected, and plans are in place to engage concessionaires for the construction of suitable offices in both Lagos and Abuja. The statement stressed that the Minister’s decision aligns with the commitment to act in the best interest of the country, emphasizing prudent use of public funds.
Additionally, the Minister plans to construct befitting corporate buildings in both cities, and a final decision on the permanent headquarters will be made in the future, considering the exigencies of the time. FAAN reiterated its commitment to acting in the best interest of the public and the country.
