Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) sprang into action today, rescuing three injured crash victims at Anthony Service Lane inward Town Planning Way, Lagos, following a harrowing accident.
Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, confirmed that the three rescued crash victims were passengers inside one of the Volkswagen commercial buses involved in the accident.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a Volvo 6-tyre truck (T-17138LA), traveling at high speed, lost control due to a brake failure and subsequently collided with a Nissan Car (LSD 497 EY) and two Volkswagen commercial buses (EKY 129 XT / KSF 815 XS).
While the driver of the truck fled the scene after the accident, officers from the Mosafejo Police Station provided security support during the rescue operation conducted by LASTMA officials.
Lastma Bakare Sulaiman Akanbi, Head of Zone 11 Anthony, who spearheaded the recovery operations, confirmed that his team swiftly evacuated the Volvo Truck and the three other vehicles to facilitate unimpeded vehicular movement inward Town Planning.
In response to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, issued a stern warning to truck owners and drivers, urging them to refrain from overspeeding and to ensure thorough checks, particularly of the braking system, before embarking on any journey within or outside Lagos.
The swift response and coordinated efforts of LASTMA and law enforcement agencies underscore the commitment to ensuring public safety on Lagos roads.
