Local Hunters, Police Rescue Kidnap Victim in Ondo, Neutralise Three Suspected Abductors

AKURE, Nigeria — Three suspected kidnappers have been neutralised in Ondo State after a joint operation involving local hunters and security operatives led to the successful rescue of a kidnapped victim in Ikare, Akoko North-East Local Government Area.

The Ondo State Police Command confirmed that the operation was carried out following a distress report of an abduction in the area.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, the combined team engaged the suspected kidnappers in a gun duel during a coordinated response operation.

“The operation resulted in the neutralisation of three suspected kidnappers, while two others were arrested,” the police spokesperson said.

The arrested suspects were identified as Yahaya Isa (20) and Ismail Ismail.

The victim, Mr. Tijani Aremu, was rescued alive and unhurt. He has since been taken to a medical facility for examination and care.

Security sources said the operation highlights the growing importance of collaboration between local security networks and formal law enforcement agencies in tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.

The police commended the bravery of the local hunters, noting that their timely intervention contributed significantly to the success of the rescue mission.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to track down other members of the suspected kidnapping syndicate and prevent further incidents in the area.

The incident adds to ongoing concerns over insecurity in parts of the Southwest, where security agencies have increasingly relied on community-based support to combat criminal activities.
