Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, has imposed a 24-hour curfew across Minna, the state capital, following unrest linked to the deaths of suspected illegal miners in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.
The curfew took effect immediately after Friday’s Jumu’ah prayers and will remain in force until further notice.
Under the directive, residents are required to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary movements throughout the period.
Security agencies have also been directed to enforce the curfew and take necessary measures to protect lives and property across the metropolis.
The development followed protests and unrest reported in Minna on Thursday over the deaths of suspected illegal miners who were reportedly being held in NSCDC custody.
The incident sparked tension in parts of the state capital, prompting the state government to impose the curfew as authorities moved to restore calm and prevent further escalation.
The government urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies while efforts are made to contain the situation.
