NCDMB Screens 96 Candidates for Oil Sector Training to Boost Indigenous Workforce

ABUJA, Nigeria — The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has screened 96 candidates in Abuja for a specialised field readiness training programme aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s indigenous workforce in the oil and gas industry.

The computer-based test, conducted at the Tudun Wada CBT Hub in Wuse Zone 4, forms part of NCDMB’s human capacity development drive in partnership with Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited.

According to the Board, the exercise is designed to identify qualified Nigerians for its Field Readiness Training Programme, which equips participants with practical skills required for field operations across the oil and gas value chain.

The initiative comes amid increasing demand for technically skilled personnel in Nigeria’s petroleum sector, as operators seek to meet modern standards in safety, project execution, and field operations.

Candidates for the programme were selected through the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Joint Qualification System (NOGIC JQS), NCDMB’s digital platform for profiling and training opportunities, reinforcing transparency and merit-based selection.

Industry observers say the programme aligns with Nigeria’s broader goal of reducing reliance on expatriate expertise while expanding opportunities for local professionals under the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development framework.

Speaking on the exercise, NCDMB officials emphasized the importance of building a skilled local workforce capable of driving long-term growth and sustainability in the energy sector.

The screening process was supervised by the Manager of NCDMB’s Human Capacity Development Division, Tari Bribena, alongside Samuel Joseph, to ensure credibility and operational efficiency.

The Board also encouraged Nigerians seeking career opportunities in the oil and gas industry to register on the NOGIC JQS platform, noting that all beneficiary selections for its training programmes are conducted through the system.

Analysts note that structured training initiatives like this are critical to closing skills gaps and ensuring that more Nigerians benefit directly from investments in the country’s oil and gas sector.
