Nigeria conveyed the message in a statement issued on Wednesday by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, following Zambia’s presidential election held on August 13, 2026.

Both countries, as members of the African Union, share interests in promoting peace, security, democratic governance, regional integration and sustainable development across the continent.
The Federal Government said it looked forward to working closely with Hichilema and his administration to deepen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in key sectors.

The government also recognised Zambia’s contribution to regional peace and stability and expressed its readiness to work with Lusaka and other African partners to address the continent’s peace and security challenges through African-led initiatives, dialogue and cooperation.
“As President Hichilema commences his second term, Nigeria wishes him wisdom, strength and success in the discharge of his responsibilities,” the statement said.
