The Christian Association of Nigeria has knocked political leaders over the worsening hardship in the country, saying millions of Nigerians are now battling hunger, fear and hopelessness.
In its Eid-el-Kabir message to Muslims, CAN warned that Nigerians are tired of empty promises and want leaders who can truly feel and share in their suffering.
CAN President, Daniel Okoh, said the current hardship has gone beyond figures and statistics, stressing that many families now survive on skipped meals, unpaid school fees and sleepless nights.
“Families are struggling to survive rising living costs. Farmers are abandoning their lands out of fear. Small businesses are collapsing under economic pressure,” the Christian body lamented.
The association said Eid-el-Kabir should remind leaders that sacrifice must not be left for ordinary Nigerians alone, insisting that those in power must show honesty, compassion, restraint and commitment to easing the pains of citizens.
“Nigerians need hope they can see, not promises they no longer believe,” CAN declared.
The body also warned that hardship should not be allowed to trigger religious, ethnic or regional divisions in the country.
“Hunger does not ask for tribe or religion. Poverty does not discriminate. Insecurity threatens everyone,” the statement added.
CAN urged religious leaders across all faiths to preach peace, moderation and reconciliation as anger and frustration continue to rise in many communities.
The association further appealed to wealthy Nigerians and corporate organisations to support widows, orphans, displaced persons and struggling families during the Sallah season.
It, however, expressed hope that Nigeria can still overcome its challenges if leaders and citizens embrace sacrifice, justice, compassion and unity.
CAN also prayed for peace, healing and renewed hope across the nation while wishing Muslims a happy Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
