Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, on Monday dismissed allegations that a political party was denied access to Eagle Square, insisting that no formal application had been submitted for the use of the facility.
“Who denied them? I am not aware of any such development, and I don’t even know which party you are referring to. If it is the African Democratic Congress (ADC), such claims are often attempts to gain public sympathy,” the minister said.
Wike explained that access to Eagle Square is governed by a clearly defined process, requiring applicants to submit requests through the appropriate authorities and fulfil necessary financial obligations.
“As we speak, no formal application has been submitted to my office or any relevant authority. When other political parties used the venue, they followed due process. We do not deny any group access if procedures are adhered to,” he added.
The minister spoke during an inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects in Abuja, where he expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, noting that key road projects are scheduled for completion by May 15, while streetlight installations are expected before the end of the month.
“I am pleased with what we have seen across all the project sites. The contractors have reassured us of their commitment to timely delivery,” he said.
At Gaduwa, Wike directed the installation of protective mesh along road corridors to curb encroachment by traders, while also confirming steady progress on streetlight installation in the area.
He also visited Wassa, where the administration is developing a facility to relocate informal sector operators, particularly mechanics, in fulfilment of long-standing policy commitments.
“This project underscores the government’s resolve to improve the livelihoods of ordinary Nigerians by providing a conducive environment for their economic activities,” he said.
On reports that the Kugbo Bus Terminal had collapsed, Wike clarified that the structure remained intact, explaining that only sections of the roof were affected by a windstorm.
“The terminal did not collapse. The roofing sheets were blown off due to strong winds, but the structural integrity of the building remains intact. Repairs are already underway,” he stated.
He added that no lives were lost in the incident and attributed the steady progress of projects across the FCT to a sustained partnership between the government and contractors, anchored on accountability and prompt payment of obligations.
