…We didn’t authorize any statement
Northern Chairmen of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) have disowned statements allegedly issued on their behalf concerning the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), describing them as false, unauthorized, and aimed at creating division.
In a press release dated May 20, 2025, and signed under the banner of the Northern SDP Chairmen Forum (NSCF), the leaders categorically stated that they were not present at the said NWC meeting and had no involvement in any comments issued from it.
“We have no authority to interfere in the affairs of the National Working Committee,” they stated. “Anyone who made such a statement on our behalf is acting maliciously and unethically.”
The signatories Hon. Nuradeen Bisalla (FCT Chairman, representing North Central), Hon. Ali Shattima (Kano State Chairman, representing North West), Hon. Adamu Modibbo (Gombe State Chairman, representing North East), and Barr. B. Y. Yarima (Chairman, Northern Chairmen Forum) reaffirmed their loyalty to the national chairman and warned against exploiting regional sentiments to stir conflict within the party.
“It is inappropriate for us to issue statements urging the NWC to take action against any national leader, such as the Public Relations Officer,” they noted.
The forum emphasized its commitment to party unity, cautioning against any perception of tribalism. “We believe in the cohesion of the party across the country and do not want to be perceived as tribalistic,” the statement read.
They called on the national chairman to personally intervene and guide the party toward reconciliation.
“Our hope is that they will unite the party and resolve any misunderstandings by adhering to the rules and regulations of the party. North and South are one entity under our national chairman,” the chairmen declared.
The intervention comes amid internal tensions in the SDP, with the Northern chairmen’s position aimed at calming the situation and reinforcing national unity within the party’s ranks.
