Ile-Ife, Osun State — Joy has filled the ancient city of Ile-Ife as the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, announced the birth of twin princes with his wife, Olori Mariam Ajibola.
The revered monarch made the announcement on Thursday, May 15, 2026, expressing gratitude to God for the blessing. “To God be all the glory and adoration for His wondrous works and abundant blessings once again!” the Ooni declared.
In his statement, the Arole Oduduwa extended warmest congratulations to the entire House of Oduduwa and to Olori Mariam Ajibola on the joyous arrival of “a prince and a prince to the royal throne of Oduduwa today.” He confirmed that both the mother and the newborn twins are in excellent health.
Olori Mariam Ajibola, who hails from Kogi State and was raised in Ilorin, Kwara State, became one of the Ooni’s queens in 2022. She is noted for her calm and low-profile disposition within the palace.
The birth of the twin princes adds to the growing royal household and is seen as a significant blessing for the House of Oduduwa, one of Africa’s oldest and most revered monarchies. The Ooni, who ascended the throne in 2015 as the 51st Ooni, has continued to blend tradition with modernity while expanding the royal lineage.
Tributes and congratulatory messages have poured in from traditional rulers, politicians, celebrities, and well-wishers across Nigeria and the Yoruba diaspora, celebrating the double blessing for the kingdom.
Palace sources indicate that traditional rites and celebrations befitting the arrival of royal heirs are already underway in Ile-Ife.
This latest addition brings renewed excitement to the ancient throne, reinforcing the Ooni’s role as a custodian of Yoruba culture and a unifying figure.
