Oyo Declares Thursday Work-Free for Isese Day Celebration

IBADAN — The Oyo State Government has declared Thursday, August 20, 2026, a work-free day to enable residents to celebrate this year’s Isese Day.

The declaration was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde.

According to the statement, Governor Seyi Makinde approved the work-free day to allow residents to commemorate the traditional festival.

The state government urged residents to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity and stability in Oyo State and Nigeria.

The statement quoted Makinde as calling on residents to make the celebration an opportunity to pray for the continued peace and progress of the state and the country.

The government’s declaration provides residents with a day away from official duties to participate in Isese Day activities and observances across the state.

The Isese Day celebration is associated with the traditional religious and cultural heritage of the Yoruba people.

The state government did not announce any additional restrictions or special measures in connection with the work-free day in the statement.
