A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to formally ratify former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The ratification is expected to take place at a Special National Convention scheduled for Saturday at the ‘A’ Class Event Centre, Wuse 2, Abuja, beginning at 10am.
According to a notice signed by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, and National Organising Secretary, Theophilus Dakas Shan, the event will confirm Jonathan as the party’s flag-bearer after a series of internal processes.
The faction had earlier granted Jonathan a waiver and cleared him as the sole aspirant, following a screening exercise conducted on May 19.
It also held a presidential primary before moving to the final ratification stage.
Jonathan, who served as President between 2010 and 2015, has not publicly confirmed his acceptance of the nomination or declared his intention to contest the 2027 election.
He had previously told supporters that he would consult widely before making any political decision, stressing that the presidency was not a “computer game.”
