The Olatunji Disu has launched a sweeping security offensive in Plateau State, deploying elite Police Mobile Force units and specialised tactical teams in response to renewed killings that have heightened tension across affected communities.
The decisive move follows the March 29 attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, where several residents were killed in a violent incident that has sent shockwaves across the state.
Condemning the killings, the police chief ordered an expanded security presence aimed at restoring calm, protecting vulnerable communities, and hunting down perpetrators of the violence.
Details of the operation were outlined in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, who noted that the intervention goes beyond routine deployment.
According to him, the operation involves a coordinated effort of tactical squads, operatives of the Police Mobile Force, and intelligence units working alongside other security agencies to prevent further escalation.
As part of the strategy, the Inspector-General had earlier deployed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Umar Nadada, to Plateau State to assess the situation, coordinate field operations, and strengthen the existing security framework.
The latest reinforcement, the police said, reflects a broader recalibration of security strategy, with increased assets and intensified operations to tackle persistent threats and restore stability.
“The Inspector-General of Police states that these actions will continue until normalcy is fully restored. All operational commanders have been directed to ensure visible policing and sustained engagement with vulnerable communities,” the statement said.
Amid the heightened security measures, the police boss extended condolences to the Plateau State Government, affected families, and residents impacted by the tragedy.
He also urged citizens to remain calm, avoid reprisals, and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information on suspicious activities.
As Plateau comes under tighter security watch, the message from the nation’s top cop is clear: efforts to reclaim the streets and restore peace will be relentless until order is fully re-established.
