…Directs DIG Operations to Take Charge in Plateau
In a swift response to the renewed wave of violence in Plateau State, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical police assets to areas worst-hit by the recent attacks.
According to a statement released on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the move follows the “deeply troubling series of attacks and killings that have plagued some communities of Plateau State since March 28, 2025.”
The IGP’s directive includes the mobilization of specialized tactical units, cutting-edge surveillance drones, Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs), units of the Police Mobile Force, helicopters, and elite teams from the Special Intervention Squad (SIS).
To spearhead the operation, the IGP has assigned the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Kwazhi Dali Yakubu, to lead and coordinate security efforts in the state.
“The deployment underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s resolve to restore peace, ensure the safety of all residents, and bring the perpetrators of these heinous crimes to justice,” the statement noted.
Bokkos Local Government Area and surrounding communities have been the epicenter of the attacks, which began on March 28, leaving scores dead and many more injured. The violence has since escalated, spreading fear and displacing several communities.
DIG Kwazhi, who arrived in Plateau on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang. During the visit, he conveyed the IGP’s condolences to victims and their families and reiterated the Force’s commitment to restoring calm.
The visit also served as a platform for assessing the ground situation, engaging with local stakeholders, and discussing long-term strategies to prevent further bloodshed.
The police leadership has adopted a multi-faceted approach aimed not just at halting the ongoing violence, but also at preventing future attacks through intelligence-led operations and community engagement.
IGP Egbetokun emphasized the importance of collaboration with the state government, traditional rulers, security agencies, and residents to build a sustainable peace framework.
The Nigeria Police Force has appealed to residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities or persons to the nearest security post, assuring the public that their safety remains a top priority.
