Tinubu Unveils Wuye Flyover-Link Bridge, Celebrates Infrastructure Milestone

“This engineering structure in the Wuse District of the Federal Capital Territory stands as a testament to our commitment to the people and the government,” declared President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the inauguration of the Wuye Flyover-Link Bridge on Thursday in Abuja.

“Thanks to your team, you have delivered a shining example of progress to the people of Nigeria.”

President Tinubu lauded the efforts of the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, highlighting the tangible impact of his dedication. “Nyesom, if they say you drag me from sleep, it’s for results,” Tinubu quipped, emphasizing the minister’s relentless drive.

The new bridge, a vital addition to the vibrant Wuse community, is expected to significantly improve traffic flow and connectivity within and beyond the district.

“This project symbolizes not just infrastructure development but also the empowerment of the Wuse and Wuye communities, fulfilling promises made years ago,” Tinubu continued. He stressed the importance of looking forward, aspiring for greatness, and seizing opportunities from obstacles.

“We are investing in essential services such as water supply, electricity, and road networks to foster economic growth and improve the quality of life for all residents of the Abuja Capital Territory.”

Tinubu expressed heartfelt gratitude to the FCT minister and the entire team for realizing this dream, emphasizing the project’s role in enhancing security and making the people the central focus of development.

“Our determination to succeed and extend happiness to our teeming population, bringing prosperity and immense value to our people, is the goal of the government,” he asserted.

In closing, Tinubu declared, “It is my great honour and singular privilege to inaugurate this project. Whatever anybody may say, it should be that Nigeria is making progress. The prosperity, the hope, the achievement is in our hands. We will build a nation where no one is excluded.”

Earlier, the FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike said, “Mr. President, I am thrilled to announce the completion of the long-awaited interchange project, awarded in 2009 for 34 billion Naira and later revised to 74 billion Naira. This achievement is a testament to your determination to bring back hope to the people of FCT.

I expressed my gratitude to the honorable minister of state, Dr Mariya Mahmoud and the chairmen of the committees for their unwavering support. Our collaboration has been seamless, and we have worked together to achieve these milestones.

“Removing us from the TSA has been instrumental in achieving these projects. Your vision for governance as a business has enabled us to take bold steps and make significant progress.

“Thank you, Mr. President, for your leadership and support. We are proud to be part of your renewed hope mantra and look forward to continuing our work together to bring more progress and development to the people of FCT”, he said.

The FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud said, it is imperative to address the vital issue of engineering infrastructure provision across Abuja districts.

This is because Abuja, as the capital city of Nigeria, serves as the administrative and political hub of the nation, accommodating a diverse population and supporting a myriad of activities. However, the sustainable development and growth of any city relies heavily on its infrastructure backbone, particularly in the realm of engineering.

Speaking on the overview of the project, the Executive Secretary, Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) , Engr Shehu Hadi said, “Today, we gather to commission a key project delivered by Wike’s administration in the FCTA, enhancing transportation and reducing hazards in the Federal Capital City. The Wuye district, a residential area in phase two, spans 411 hectares with 34 kilometers of planned roads.

He added that, “The Honourable Minister prioritized critical projects, including the Wuye district, and emphasized delivering the Wuye to Wuse link bridge. This project addresses casualties and fatalities in the area and resolves chaotic traffic conditions at Julius Berger roundabout.

“Thanks to Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike’s determination, the approximately two-kilometer network of roads around the interchange has been completed. This project eliminates traffic congestion and prevents crashes, with pedestrian walkways provided for safe passage between districts”, he hinted.
