A British-Nigerian singer, Mark Orabiyi, has been stabbed to death in the United Kingdom, sparking a police investigation that has already led to the arrest of three suspects.
Orabiyi, 35, was reportedly attacked in the garden of a property on Rayleigh Road on Friday.
According to the United Kingdom Metropolitan Police, officers responded to a distress call alongside paramedics and found the singer with multiple stab wounds.
Despite efforts to save his life, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The deceased, who was well known in music circles, has been described by his grieving family as a loving son, brother, uncle and friend whose life touched many people.
In an emotional tribute, the family said: “Mark was a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend. He brought love, light and joy to our family and everyone who knew him. We will always cherish his kindness, beautiful spirit and remarkable talent.”
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that three suspects two men and a woman were arrested in connection with the killing.
A 27-year-old man was released on bail pending further investigations, while a 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were released after questioning with no further action taken against them.
Police also disclosed that another 20-year-old victim sustained multiple stab wounds during the incident but survived and is receiving treatment in hospital.
Leading the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke described the killing as tragic and appealed to members of the public to assist detectives with useful information.
“This is a tragic incident, and my thoughts remain with Mark’s family and loved ones. Our investigation is progressing, and we urge anyone who was in the area or has CCTV footage to come forward,” she said.
The shocking killing has sent waves of grief through the Nigerian community in the UK as detectives continue efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the fatal attack.
