Maiduguri, June 19, 2026 — Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled coordinated attacks by ISWAP terrorists in Borno State and launched a counter-offensive that inflicted heavy casualties on the insurgents.
The military said the attacks occurred in the early hours of Friday at Dusten Kura and along Chara Road in Buratai, Biu Local Government Area, where terrorists attempted to overrun troops’ positions.
According to a statement by the Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, alert troops, backed by credible intelligence, swiftly detected the incursion and responded with superior firepower.
“The prompt and effective employment of the Air Component, particularly Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, as well as precision strike platforms from the Nigerian Air Force, proved decisive,” he said.
Goni explained that coordinated air and ground operations disrupted the террорист assault, forcing the attackers to retreat in disarray after suffering significant losses in personnel and equipment.
He added that no casualties were recorded among the troops during the engagement.
The military described the operation as a demonstration of the high level of combat readiness and effective synergy between ground forces and the Air Component in ongoing counter-insurgency efforts.
“The Theatre Command remains committed to denying insurgents freedom of action and ensuring the safety of law-abiding citizens across the North-East,” the statement added.
Residents were urged to remain vigilant and continue providing timely intelligence to security agencies to support ongoing operations.
Operation Hadin Kai is Nigeria’s flagship counter-insurgency mission targeting Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the North-East.
