Trump Never Praised Tinubu’s Anti-Terror War, APM Blasts Presidency

The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has accused the Presidency of misrepresenting a letter from United States President Donald Trump by creating the impression that the American leader commended President Bola Tinubu for achievements in the fight against terrorism.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, the opposition party said its review of President Trump’s July 6, 2026 letter showed that the U.S. President merely acknowledged Tinubu’s resolve to tackle insecurity and violence in Nigeria, particularly attacks on Christian communities.

Quoting the letter, the APM said Trump wrote: “Thank you for your thoughtful letter. Your kind words mean a great deal to me, and I appreciate your decisive leadership on behalf of the Nigerian people. I applaud your resolve to tackle the issues plaguing your nation, especially the violence affecting Christian communities.”

The party insisted that nowhere in the letter did President Trump commend the Tinubu administration for achieving concrete success in the war against terrorism or improving the country’s security situation.

“The Presidency has deliberately created the impression that President Trump endorsed the Tinubu administration’s performance on security. What the U.S. President acknowledged was a stated commitment, not verified results,” the statement said.

The APM challenged the Presidency to point to any part of the letter where Trump praised Tinubu for defeating terrorists, reducing insecurity or recording measurable progress in the fight against violent crimes.

“A commitment is not the same thing as an achievement. Nigerians are still waiting for tangible results after years of promises and repeated assurances that insecurity would be brought under control,” the party stated.

The opposition party also accused the Federal Government of relying on propaganda and political messaging to create an impression of progress while many communities across the country continue to battle killings, kidnappings and attacks by armed groups.

According to the APM, despite repeated assurances by the administration since late 2025, Nigerians are yet to witness the level of decisive action required to end the country’s security challenges.

The party urged President Tinubu to focus on delivering visible improvements in security rather than seeking political gains from diplomatic correspondence.
