Halima Dangote, daughter of billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote, has explained why she and her sisters, Mariya and Fatima, have chosen to maintain a low public profile despite growing up in one of Nigeria’s wealthiest families.
Halima made the disclosure in a resurfaced Bloomberg interview featuring the three Dangote daughters, saying they preferred to allow their professional achievements and business results to speak for them rather than publicly display their wealth.
“We are not spoilt,” Halima said.
She explained that the sisters were generally reserved when interacting with peers, including children of their father’s friends, and rarely introduced themselves by their family name or discussed their wealth.
“Everyone has his own job. We are more… quiet in the sense that we don’t say who we are,” she said.
According to Halima, the sisters found it easier when they were not widely recognised because they could concentrate on their careers without attracting unnecessary attention.
“It was easier when we were not recognised; you know, our results speak for themselves,” she added.
She noted that while some people were comfortable with social media, public recognition and openly displaying their possessions, she and her sisters were less expressive about their personal lives and wealth.
“I don’t think we are — all three of us are not expressive of what we have or what we own or what we’re doing,” Halima said.
She further explained that the sisters preferred to be judged by their professional performance, pointing to business growth, profits and other measurable results as evidence of their contributions to the Dangote Group.
“I think, like Fatima and Mariya said, the results are just the ones speaking for themselves,” she said, adding that the sisters occupy key positions within the family’s business empire.
The interview, which was originally published by Bloomberg in August 2026, was filmed at the Dangote family’s home in Lagos. A clip from the interview resurfaced on social media on Saturday, triggering reactions from users who commented on the sisters’ approach to wealth, privacy and public life.
Some social media users praised the sisters for maintaining a low profile, while others discussed the roles they play in the Dangote business empire.
The three sisters hold senior positions within the Dangote Group, with their responsibilities expanding as the conglomerate develops its succession structure.
Dangote had previously said he could see one of his three daughters eventually leading the conglomerate.
“I think, yes, I can see one of them. I’ve been watching all of them, so I can definitely see one of the three that can actually lead,” he said.
